Samsung’s ‘Confidential’ 22.8 Trillion Won Foundry Contract… Revealed by Musk’s Statement
Samsung Electronics’ contract with Tesla for semiconductor foundry services worth 22.7648 trillion won has been effectively disclosed due to Elon Musk's remarks.
Initially, Samsung Electronics announced that it would not disclose the details of the partner or the specific processes involved, but Musk directly mentioned it on his social media, drawing global attention.
Musk stated, “Samsung’s massive new factory in Texas will be fully dedicated to the production of Tesla's next-generation AI6 chips,” and emphasized that “the strategic importance of this cannot be overstated.”
He added, “Samsung has allowed Tesla to participate in maximizing manufacturing efficiency, and plans to speed up the process by setting up a dedicated production line.”
Bloomberg also reported that Samsung Electronics had signed a multi-year contract worth $16.5 billion (approximately 22.7648 trillion won) with Tesla. The contract period is from the 24th of this month until December 31, 2033, which represents 7.6% of Samsung Electronics' sales of 300.8709 trillion won last year.
Proving 2-Nanometer Technology… Expectations for a Turnaround in Foundry Business
Industry insiders believe that this contract will be a decisive factor in leading a resurgence for Samsung Electronics' foundry division.
The foundry division has faced losses that have hindered performance, but the large contract with Tesla is expected to improve profitability. Bloomberg stated, “This contract will increase Samsung's foundry revenue by 10% annually,” and “the production capability of 2-nanometer generation chips is once again gaining attention.”
A market insider remarked, “The fact that Tesla, a global leader in electric vehicles and AI, has trusted Samsung's advanced technology signifies that Samsung's foundry competitiveness is being further strengthened.”
