Victim of Stalking Killed Despite Three Reports to Police
A woman in her 50s, who was stabbed to death on the 26th at an elder protection center in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, had reported stalking-related crimes to the police three times just this year.
According to the Uijeongbu Police Station on the 27th, a man's body in his 60s, identified as A, was discovered by hikers around 10:50 AM on the Suhak Mountain hiking trail. A was the suspect who had murdered the woman, B, the previous day, and was already dead at the time of discovery.
B was found stabbed by a colleague at an elder protection center in Uijeongbu on the afternoon of the 26th at 5:15 PM.
The police had been tracking A, who was considered a prime suspect. A had a history of being reported for stalking after approaching B earlier in the month.

Investigations revealed that A had begun stalking B in March, continuously contacting and visiting her, and B had reported this matter to the police on three different occasions.
The first report was made on March 14, when A had caused a commotion after coming to find B in Uijeongbu. The police managed the situation and issued a warning.
The second report was made on May 25, when A sent a text message to B despite the police's warning, leading to the issuance of a stalking warning.
Nevertheless, A visited B's home on the 20th of this month and was ultimately caught in the act and arrested. The police applied for emergency protective measures and provisional measures; however, only the emergency measures were approved afterward, while the provisional measures were dismissed by the prosecutor.
Emergency Protective Measures and Provisional Measures Application

After receiving a stalking report, the police can issue an emergency protective measure (prohibiting access within 100 meters of the residence or via telecommunications) by authority.
They can also apply for provisional measures (written warning, prohibition of access within 100 meters or via telecommunications, detention, etc.) from the court. Provisional measures are applied to cases deemed more serious due to more detailed requirements and complicated procedures.
B had been carrying a smartwatch, but unfortunately, there were no reports received through this device on the day she was killed.
