Fire breaks out on 5 fishing boats docked at Sinjin Port in Taean… Over 200 vessels urgently evacuate

Fire on Fishing Vessels at Shinjin Port in Taean, Chungcheongnam-do Results in Damage to Five Vessels

A fire broke out on five 32-ton fishing vessels at Shinjin Port in Taean, Chungcheongnam-do, which was completely extinguished after five hours of firefighting efforts.

At around 10:31 PM on the 26th, a large fire occurred on a 32-ton fishing vessel that was docked at Shinjin Port in Geunheung-myeon, Taean County. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported from this fire incident.

The flames quickly spread to nearby vessels, resulting in damage to a total of five fishing boats. Four vessels were completely burned down, while one was partially scorched.

Considering the severity of the fire, the firefighting authorities issued a Level 2 response at around 10:58 PM and initiated a large-scale firefighting operation.

A Level 2 response means deploying 51 to 80 units from 8 to 14 fire stations, indicating a substantial fire incident.

Chungcheongnam-do and Taean County sent a total of four disaster text alerts to nearby residents between 11:04 PM and 11:54 PM after the fire broke out.

Chungcheongnam-do sent a message stating, "A ship fire occurred at Shinjin Port in Geunheung-myeon, Taean County, around 10:30 PM today. Nearby residents are advised to refrain from going outside and to evacuate to Anheung Elementary School."

Taean County also sent disaster warnings which included messages such as, "Residents are advised to evacuate to a safe location in advance," "Due to the risk of spreading flames, vessel owners are requested to take action to move their boats," and "Access to the fire scene is prohibited due to concerns about secondary damage from toxic harmful substances."

With the prompt response from the firefighting authorities, the fire was completely extinguished at around 3:30 AM on the 27th, approximately five hours after it broke out.

Currently, the Taean Maritime Police and firefighting authorities are conducting a detailed investigation into the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
