HYBE America is making a K-pop movie.
On the 23rd, HYBE America announced, "We have decided to produce a film themed around K-pop in collaboration with the American film studio Paramount Pictures."
The story centers on a Korean-American girl who participates in an audition TV program to become part of the next-generation K-pop girl group, despite her family's objections.
The lead casting has been completed, with actress and voice artist Yoo Ji-young taking on the main role. She previously portrayed Joy in the Netflix film "K-pop Demon Hunters."
Singer and actor Eric Nam has also confirmed his participation. He starred as surgical resident Yona Yoon in the American film "Fransplant," which was released last year.
The movie's title has not yet been finalized. Filming is set to commence in September in South Korea, with a theatrical release planned for February 12, 2027.
Director Benson Lee will be at the helm. He has previously won awards at the Sundance Film Festival for his film "Ms. Monday." The screenplay will be written by writer Eileen Shim.
James Shin, president of the film division at HYBE America, and former CEO Scooter Braun will be involved in the production, with Paramount Pictures overseeing the entire project.
Director Benson Lee described the film as "my love letter to K-pop, which has energy, passion, magic, and a tremendous supporting community."
He expressed gratitude to those involved in the project, stating, "I would like to thank Paramount Pictures and the team for making this story a reality."
President James Shin added, "I am very pleased to have the opportunity to present a story about K-pop to audiences around the world in collaboration with Paramount."
He expressed hope that the film will capture the dedication, artistry, and popularity of K-pop, while also telling a universal story about pursuing dreams despite any adversities.
