Father who shot his son with a homemade gun arrested
A man in his 60s, who shot his son with a homemade gun at his birthday party in an apartment in Songdo International City, Incheon, has been arrested.
On the 22nd, Judge Yoo Ah-ram of the Incheon District Court issued an arrest warrant for Mr. A (62).
The charges include murder, violation of the laws on the safe management of firearms, blades, and explosives, violation of explosives management laws, and preparation for arson in a dwelling. Judge Yoo stated, "The suspect poses a risk of destroying evidence or fleeing," as a reason for the arrest.
Mr. A did not appear for his substantive warrant review scheduled for that afternoon. The court reviewed the notice of refusal to appear submitted by the prosecution and conducted the examination process without Mr. A's presence.
Shooting with a homemade gun and setting arson device in home
Mr. A is accused of shooting his son, Mr. B (33), around 9:31 PM on the 20th from the 33rd floor of an apartment in Songdo, Incheon.
According to investigations, Mr. A attended a birthday party prepared by his son, briefly stepped out, and then returned home with a firearm, pulling the trigger at his son. Out of the three shots fired, two hit Mr. B in the chest, and one was found lodged in the front door.
Before and after the crime, it was revealed that Mr. A had also installed an arson device in his apartment in Sangmun-dong, Dobong-gu, Seoul, where he resides. Police discovered 15 flammable materials, including bottles of gasoline, detergent containers, and milk cartons, at the scene. He had attached an ignition device and set a timer to ignite it at noon on the 21st.
"Please don't try to understand"… The suspect remained tight-lipped
While police regard the motive for this incident as domestic discord, the specific reasons remain unclear.
Mr. A reportedly refused to provide further statements, leaving behind only the brief remark, "Please don't try to understand."
