People Power Party instructs Seoul City Party to investigate past remarks of Jeon Han-gil regarding ‘party membership application’

Korean National Power Party Begins Investigation into Jeon Han-gil's Past Remarks and Actions

The Korean National Power Party has directed the Seoul City Party to investigate the past remarks and actions of Jeon Han-gil, a Korean history instructor it recently recruited. This move appears to be a response to concerns raised within the party that some of Jeon's statements do not align with the party's principles.

On the 21st, Money Today reported that Song Eon-seok, the Emergency Response Committee Chairperson and Floor Leader of the Korean National Power Party, stated after a meeting of the party's Emergency Response Committee held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, "I have directed the Seoul City Party to consider whether there are appropriate measures in accordance with our party's constitution and regulations regarding Jeon Han-gil's various remarks and actions."

According to reports, this is interpreted as an examination of the possibility that Jeon Han-gil's YouTube activities or comments made outside of official gatherings could conflict with the party's direction.

The Korean National Power Party is said to be considering measures such as referring Jeon's past remarks that violate party constitution and regulations to the party's ethics committee or conducting a party audit. This movement aligns with the party's push for innovation.

Park Seong-hoon, the chief spokesperson for the Korean National Power Party, stated, "We have been making various efforts to match the public's perspective and gain public consensus," and added, "With the launch of the Yoon Hee-suk Innovation Committee, I have consistently said that it is necessary for the party to distance itself from certain groups that make extreme statements to move into the future."

He further added, "In that context, actions are being taken."

In particular, Chief Spokesperson Park mentioned a concrete example, saying, "For instance, the party has opposed the emergency martial law (under former President Yoon Seok-youl)," and noted, "Supporting the emergency martial law is not in line with what our party aims for."

This suggests the possibility that Jeon Han-gil may have made remarks in the past related to emergency martial law.

Meanwhile, regarding questions about the possibility of Jeon Han-gil forming a coalition with candidates for party leadership and the potential influence this might have, Chief Spokesperson Park responded, "I need to discuss it comprehensively before I can say anything," and reiterated, "As I mentioned earlier, we will act in accordance with the party's constitution and regulations."
