A 43-Year-Old Man Wielding a Weapon Against His Partner's Parents Sentenced to Life Imprisonment
On the 20th, the Daegu District Court Sangju Branch (Chief Judge Jeon Woo-seok) sentenced A (43) to life imprisonment for committing a retaliatory murder after his partner reported him to the police.
A was indicted for violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, including retaliatory murder.

A is accused of going to his partner B's parents' home in Sangju, North Gyeongsang Province, last December, where he wielded a weapon, killing B’s father and seriously injuring B’s mother when she tried to intervene, before fleeing the scene.
In particular, A faces additional charges for driving under the influence during his escape, further complicating the situation.
Background of the Retaliatory Murder and the Court's Judgment
According to the investigation, the incident began when A injured B by swinging a soju bottle, which led to him receiving a police summons. As retaliation, A planned the attack against B’s parents.
During the trial, A claimed, "I acted impulsively while intoxicated and did not have a retaliatory motive." However, the court did not accept this argument.

The court clearly stated its reasoning: "It is reasonable to view that feelings of betrayal or resentment from the fact that his partner was seeing another man, strong anger over the fact that his partner reported him leading to the investigation and punishment, the humiliation felt during the investigation process that began with voluntary attendance, and anxiety before attending the investigative agency collectively acted upon him."
This case serves as a stark reminder of the seriousness of domestic violence and retaliatory crimes, and the court appears to be taking stern measures to prevent similar offenses through severe punishment.
