Ongwall Collapse in Osan City Crushes Vehicles on the Road

In Osan City, Gyeonggi Province, a 10-meter tall retaining wall collapsed, crushing two vehicles that were driving by.

On the evening of the 16th, the Gyeonggi Provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters reported that they received multiple calls about a large retaining wall collapsing toward the road near the Jangsan Junction in Osan City at around 7:04 PM.

Upon receiving the reports, the fire authorities immediately dispatched units to the scene and declared a Level 1 response, activating the emergency control team in consideration of the possibility of individuals being trapped.

At the site, two vehicles were confirmed to be buried under the debris of the retaining wall, and the fire authorities deployed 26 pieces of equipment, including command vehicles, and 78 personnel for rapid rescue operations.

Rescue teams are currently conducting search and rescue operations using two excavators urgently deployed to free individuals trapped in the buried vehicles.

The fire authorities are carefully verifying whether there are people inside the buried vehicles while ensuring safety at the collapse site. As of now, the exact number of casualties from the retaining wall collapse has not been confirmed.

The fire authorities are continuing rescue operations while preparing for the risk of additional collapses, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is also scheduled to take place.
