30s Man Kills Wife 3 Months After Marriage
Three months after getting married, a man in his 30s killed his pregnant wife and calmly took on the role of a mourner. In court, he did not clearly acknowledge or deny the charges, resulting in the trial's postponement.
According to News1 on the 14th, at the murder trial held by the 11th Criminal Division of the Seoul Southern District Court (Chief Judge Jang Chan), the lawyer for the man, referred to as Mr. Seo, stated, "We will clarify our stance on the indictment later."
Mr. Seo's lawyer argued that he had insufficient time to review the documents after being appointed.
In response, the court expressed its intention to conclude the trial within the six-month detention period.
According to the Criminal Procedure Act, the maximum period during which an individual can be detained for trial in the first instance is six months.
Mr. Seo requested a postponement of the trial twice previously, claiming he could not appoint a lawyer, to which the prosecution pointed out that it was "intentionally delaying the schedule."
Earlier, Mr. Seo was indicted for the murder of his wife at their newlywed home in Gangseo District, Seoul, while intoxicated on March 13, just three months after their wedding.
He reportedly took on the role of a mourner and received condolences even after his wife's death.
Mr. Seo was urgently arrested at the funeral home just a day after the memorial was set up.
Initially denying the murder allegations, Mr. Seo only admitted to the crime when the police presented decisive evidence, claiming that he acted impulsively after drinking.
Shocking Motive Revealed
During this trial, the previously concealed motive behind Mr. Seo's murder was disclosed.
According to the prosecution, Mr. Seo repeatedly demanded sexual relations with his wife while she was in the early stages of pregnancy. It was also revealed that he continued to ask for sex even during her hospital visits following a miscarriage.
Ultimately, the exhausted wife notified him of her intention to divorce in January.
It has been investigated that Mr. Seo, enraged after confirming that the victim sent messages to acquaintances saying she was struggling with "her husband's excessive demands for sexual relations" and "regretting the marriage," committed the crime.
