The incident, where a man walking in an apartment complex with his 8-month-old baby was verbally abused and attacked for trying to admonish students smoking, has caused an uproar online.
On the 8th, a post titled "While walking with my 8-month-old baby, I had my phone snatched, was grabbed by the neck, and was verbally abused by a middle school student smoking" appeared on the online community 'Bobae Dream,' triggering outrage among netizens.
According to the author of the post, Mr. A, around 10 a.m. the previous day, while walking with his child in a designated non-smoking apartment complex, he noticed students dressed in gym clothes smoking.
When Mr. A confronted them, saying, "What are you doing here? This is a non-smoking apartment. Pick up your cigarette butts and leave," the male student responded aggressively, even in the presence of the baby, saying, "Who the hell are you? Do you want to fight?"
The violent behavior did not stop there. The student grabbed Mr. A by the nape of his neck and even snatched his phone away. Mr. A reported that the police were dispatched to the scene, but the students showed no remorse whatsoever.
More shocking was the reaction of the student's parents. According to Mr. A, the parents of the student made statements such as, "Our child is not someone to be insulted," "Why did you take a video and upload it on social media? That's illegal. Take it down," and "This will not be publicized just because of smoking," effectively blaming Mr. A instead.
Mr. A mentioned that he aims to receive a sincere apology directly from the student's guardians. He added, "I hope that through this process, the student deeply recognizes his mistakes and learns a proper way to apologize with genuine reflection."
He also expressed, "I felt threatened in the presence of my baby, and the smoking and verbal abuse within the complex are very serious issues." He concluded that he hopes to share this incident with the local community and the school to prevent further occurrences.
Netizens who encountered this story responded with comments like, "Kids like that need to be corrected," "They get away with it because people always make excuses for students," and "Instead of being embarrassed and quickly extinguishing the cigarette, how can they act that way?"
