
Actor Lee Jun-young is making his debut on the Japanese screen.
Billions announced on the 8th that "Lee Jun-young will appear in the 91st work of renowned Japanese director Yoji Yamada, 'Tokyo Taxi.' He will make his debut on the Japanese screen."
'Toyko Taxi' is based on the French film 'Taxi de Paris.' It portrays reflections, reconciliations, and miraculous moments encountered at the end of life, set against the backdrop of Tokyo.
Top stars representing Japan will also appear, including Takuya Kimura, Chieko Baisho, Yuu Aoi, and Takaya Sakoda. Lee Jun-young joins as a key character.
His casting and filming were conducted in secrecy. Notably, the official announcement of his casting came after all filming was completed. He plays the role of 'Kim Young-ki' in the film.
Lee Jun-young is the first love of the protagonist, Sumire (played by Chieko Baisho) in her youth. He is expected to showcase a deep emotional connection with Yuu Aoi. This marks his first debut in the Japanese film industry.
Lee Jun-young reflected, "Thanks to director Yamada's emotion-centered direction, I could naturally immerse myself in the character. Although it was a short filming period, it was a very profound experience."
He added, "I feel greatly honored to be able to work with wonderful actors in my first Japanese film," expressing hope that "the audience can feel the warmth of humanity through the work."
Director Yoji Yamada is considered a living witness to the history of modern Japanese cinema. He has directed films such as 'A Gentle Breeze in the Village,' 'The Hidden Blade,' 'Tokyo Family,' 'The Twilight Samurai,' and the 'Kaze no Densetsu' series.
This time, he plans to showcase his uniquely humanistic directing style. Notably, this marks a reunion with Takuya Kimura after 19 years since 'The Hidden Blade.' The film is also garnering attention within Japan.
'Tokyo Taxi' is set to be released nationwide in Japan on November 21.
