Incheon City Center Toxic Gas Suffocation Incident: Missing Person Found Deceased
A worker who went missing during a survey operation on sewer lines in a manhole on a road in Byeongbang-dong, Gyeonggi-gu, Incheon, has been found dead.
On the 7th, the Incheon Fire Headquarters reported that the missing 52-year-old individual, referred to as A, was located at the Gulpo Sewage Treatment Plant, connected to the sewage line.
Previously, at around 9:22 AM on the 6th, authorities received a report stating, "Two people are collapsed inside a road manhole" in Byeongbang-dong, Gyeonggi-gu, Incheon.
On the same day, the fire department rescued a 48-year-old representative, referred to as B, from the underground manhole 20 minutes after receiving the report. B was found in a state of cardiac arrest.

B was provided with emergency treatment, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and was transported to the hospital. However, A, who was surveying the sewage line along with B, remained missing, prompting police and fire authorities to initiate underwater search operations.
At that time, it was determined that B had gone to rescue A after A, who had entered the manhole, was unable to come out and collapsed.
Police and fire authorities, based on the discovery of hydrogen sulfide and carbon monoxide in the underground pipeline, are investigating the incident, believing that A and B may have been affected by toxic gases.
Additionally, the police plan to request an autopsy from the National Institute of Scientific Investigation to determine the specific cause of death for the deceased A.
