Chungbuk Public Official Arrested on Charges of Rape and Abuse of Minors

A public official in his 50s has been arrested by the police for raping and abusing a minor nine times after meeting the victim through a chat application.

According to police reports and other sources on the 3rd, the Wonmi Police Station in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, has arrested a public official, Mr. A (55), from Chungju, Chungcheongbuk-do, on charges of statutory rape and other violations under the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles from Sexual Offenses.

Earlier on the 2nd, the Incheon District Court's Bucheon Branch conducted a pre-arrest examination for Mr. A and issued a warrant, stating that there was a risk of flight or destruction of evidence.

Nine Instances of Rape and Assaulting the Victim's Mother

Mr. A is accused of raping a minor girl, referred to as B, in an apartment located in Wonmi-gu, Bucheon, last March.

According to police investigations, Mr. A is found to have raped and sexually abused B nine times after meeting her through a chat app.

Additionally, it has been confirmed that Mr. A injured B's mother during the commission of the crimes.

The police began their investigation after receiving a 112 emergency call from B's mother, who discovered evidence of Mr. A's sexual offenses. Following thorough investigative processes, including digital forensics of his mobile phone and interrogation of the suspect, the police requested a pre-arrest warrant for Mr. A.

A police official stated, "We plan to conclude the investigation soon and transfer Mr. A to the prosecution while he remains in custody."

Meanwhile, Chungju City has taken immediate action by suspending Mr. A from his position and removing him from duties after being notified of the investigation by the police.
