This year, it has been confirmed that the rainy season in Jeju area has ended at the earliest point in history.

However, the Meteorological Administration added that the exact start and end dates of the rainy season might change after the re-analysis process in the summer.

During this rainy season, Jeju recorded a total of 117.8mm of rainfall over 8.5 days. This amount is analyzed to be the fourth least in history.

Fourth Least Rainfall in History

This year's rainy season started as the third earliest on record, and the ending point is the earliest ever documented. Previously, the record for the earliest end of the rainy season in Jeju was July 1, 1994.

Short Duration of Rainy Season and Low Rainfall… Heat Waves and Tropical Nights Expected to Persist

In terms of duration, this year's rainy season lasted for 15 days, making it the second shortest after the 7 days recorded in 1973.

On average, the rainy season in Jeju typically starts around June 19 and lasts about 32.4 days, ending around July 20.

Based on average conditions, the number of rainy days is 17.5, with an average rainfall of 348.7mm. This year, both the number of rainy days and the amount of rainfall have significantly decreased compared to the average.

According to the Meteorological Administration, this phenomenon is due to the North Pacific High being positioned further north than usual, resulting in a continuous influx of warm and humid southern winds into the Korean Peninsula.

As a result, the rainy season ends early, and generally clear weather continues.

The Meteorological Administration anticipates that the perceived temperature in Jeju will rise to around 33 degrees Celsius, and heat waves and tropical nights are expected to persist. Residents of the Jeju area need to prepare for the hot weather following a shorter rainy season.
