“Advance Child Support System” that Provides Money Instead of Dads Who Don’t Pay Child Support… “Flood of Applications” from Day One

Just one day after the implementation of the 'Child Support Advance Payment System,' over 500 applications have poured in, confirming the necessity and demand for this system.

According to the Child Support Management Agency under the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, on the first day of the system's implementation, which was on the 1st of this month, the number of applications received via the agency's website and by mail reached over 500.

This system prioritizes the payment of 200,000 won monthly in child support by the government to single-parent families raising children alone, and later recovers the amount from the non-custodial debtor.

The system, which was implemented after the amendment to the 'Act on the Enforcement and Support of Child Support' passed in the National Assembly last year, aims to create a stable upbringing environment for single-parent families and strengthen the nurturing responsibilities of non-custodial parents.

The advance payment target is the minor children of child support creditors from households with an income below 150% of the median income, who have not received child support from the non-custodial debtor for three consecutive months or more.

It is estimated that there are over 13,000 minors eligible for this support. The child support advance payment will continue until the minor children reach adulthood.

The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family has secured a budget of 16.2 billion won for the implementation of this system. This amount is sufficient to support the eligible minors for six months, with the first recovery beginning in January 2026.

Due to the influx of applicants on the first day, there were delays in phone connections and confusion; however, operations are currently running smoothly.

The agency stated, "The system is equipped with server redundancy and traffic distribution systems to respond stably," and added, "We will manage thoroughly to prevent access issues through continuous efforts."
