Hit-and-Run Incident in Front of Chuncheon Police Station, Citizens and Off-Duty Police Collaborate to Apprehend Suspect
A hit-and-run incident that occurred in front of the Chuncheon Police Station has been revealed through a video on YouTube.
On the 1st of this month, a driver attempting an illegal U-turn while under the influence of alcohol collided with a taxi and fled the scene, which was captured on video showing off-duty police officers and citizens collaboratively apprehending the suspect.
According to the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency, at approximately 10:57 PM on May 14, a vehicle driven by a man in his 30s identified as A collided with the front bumper of a taxi while attempting an illegal U-turn on the road in front of the Chuncheon Police Station.

Immediately after the accident, A did not stop and left the scene, prompting the taxi driver to exit the vehicle and yell, "Please catch that car!" while calling for help.
Hit-and-Run Driver Apprehended Thanks to Quick Coordination Between Police and Citizens
At that time, Jeong Myung-jae, a traffic management officer from the Chuncheon Police Station, who was finishing his shift, witnessed the incident and immediately pursued the hit-and-run vehicle.
The taxi driver who was involved in the accident, along with another citizen, also chased after the fleeing vehicle. A's vehicle was eventually blocked at a barrier of an apartment complex in Onui-dong, Chuncheon, after fleeing for about 400 meters.
Police and citizens chasing the hit-and-run vehicle, along with the taxi driver, surrounded A's car, and he was ultimately apprehended on the spot by the police. A's blood alcohol concentration was measured by the police and found to be over 0.2%, which is a level sufficient for license revocation.

The police sent A to the prosecution last month on charges of leaving the scene of an accident without taking necessary measures and driving under the influence of alcohol.
