Busan, Potential for First Heat Tropical Night Record This Year
As the Busan region remains under heat wave advisories for six consecutive days, the Korea Meteorological Administration announced on the 2nd that last night's conditions could officially be recorded as the first heat tropical night of the year.
As of 6:10 AM, the lowest nighttime temperature in Busan recorded was 25.9 degrees Celsius, and if the temperature remains above 25 degrees Celsius until 9 AM, it will be officially recognized as a heat tropical night.
A heat tropical night refers to a phenomenon in which temperatures remain above 25 degrees Celsius from 6 PM to 9 AM the following day.
This heat tropical night is 19 days earlier than last year's record, indicating the onset of early sultry weather.
The heat wave situation in Busan began with a heat advisory that was issued across the region on the 27th of last month, and on the 30th, the heat advisory in the central region was elevated to a warning.
Heat Wave Response and Health Management Advisory
Heat wave advisories are classified based on the perceived temperature. A heat advisory is issued when the daily maximum perceived temperature is expected to exceed 33 degrees Celsius for two or more days, and a heat warning is issued when the temperature is expected to exceed 35 degrees Celsius for two or more days.
On the 2nd, the maximum daytime temperature in Busan is projected to reach 31 degrees Celsius, with the maximum perceived temperature expected to exceed 33 degrees Celsius.
A representative from the Korea Meteorological Administration stated, "The likelihood of heat-related illnesses is high, so outdoor activities and outings should be avoided," emphasizing caution for vulnerable groups.
"They, including infants, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic illnesses, are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses, so it is advised to regularly hydrate and pay attention to their health," he stressed.
