Elderly Individuals in Their 80s Found Dead While Collecting Snails

Tragic incidents occurred as elderly individuals in their 80s were found dead in different areas within a day while gathering snails.

According to police and firefighting authorities on the 1st, an 80-year-old man identified as A was discovered unconscious around 10:48 PM the night before in a river in Boryeong-eup, Chungbuk Province.

A's wife reported the incident, and the dispatched firefighters found A in cardiac arrest and promptly transported him to the hospital, where he ultimately passed away.

Authorities suspect that A fell into the water while collecting snails with his wife and are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.

On the same night, a similar incident occurred in the Gyeongbuk region.

Around 11:53 PM, an 80-year-old man identified as B was found in cardiac arrest near the Geumho-ri underwater weir in Hwanam-myeon, Yeongcheon City, Gyeongbuk Province.

B had gone out to collect snails around 7 AM that morning and did not return home, prompting his family to file a missing person report at 9:27 PM.

Police and firefighting authorities discovered B while searching around the location where his belongings were found and recovered him from the water.

Authorities continue to investigate both incidents to determine the exact causes and circumstances of death.
