Former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo voiced strong criticism regarding the situation in which former President Yoon Suk-yeol is to undergo a special investigation related to insurrection.

Hong asked rhetorically, "Can the South Korean conservative camp regain trust from the people without a groundbreaking innovation?" He pointed out, "Since liberation, there have been five presidents who have been investigated and punished after their terms ended."

He continued, "Excluding Chun Doo-hwan and Roh Tae-woo, who were investigated for coup charges, Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye are former presidents who were investigated and punished for corruption during their terms. Today, former President Yoon Suk-yeol is under investigation for various corruption allegations," adding, "He is a former prosecutor general who imprisoned Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye at the behest of the Moon Jae-in administration."

Concerns about the Judicial Treatment of Conservative Presidents

In particular, Hong reiterated, "It is truly embarrassing," questioning, "All five were representatives of the South Korean conservative camp. Yet, can the conservative camp regain trust from the people without a groundbreaking innovation?"

Expressing deep concern about the realities of conservative politics, Hong’s remarks highlight the repeating pattern of judicial actions against presidents from conservative administrations in South Korea.

Finally, Hong added, "I had warned two months ago during the presidential primary that if we lose the election, not only former President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife but also the South Korean conservative camp would be destroyed. I find those who messed up the election with fraudulent primaries very regrettable."

Meanwhile, on the 28th, former President Yoon Suk-yeol attended the special investigation into the insurrection and returned home after around 15 hours of questioning.

The special investigation team has notified him to appear for a second time at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office at 9 a.m. on the 30th.
