The movie "Parasite" (directed by Bong Joon-ho) has been named the best film of the 21st century.
On the 27th (Korean time), the American "New York Times" (NYT) unveiled its list of the "100 Best Movies of the 21st Century." This ranking considers films released since January 1, 2000, based on a survey of 500 directors, actors, producers, and film enthusiasts.
"Parasite" secured the top position. NYT described it as "a story about the haves and the have-nots," noting its "twisted shock that moves from the poor house to the rich house." The director was referred to as a "superstar in the making." It added, "He is a master of genre who doesn't conform to conventions and has burned everything with inevitable violence."
In addition to "Parasite," Director Bong placed "Memories of Murder" (2005) at 99th. Director Park Chan-wook also made it into the rankings with "Oldboy" (2005) at 43rd.
Canadian director Celine Song, of Korean descent, ranked 86th with "Past Lives," which features an autobiographical story with actor Yoo Teo.
