Disciplinary Action Against 11 Officers Related to the Dongtan Kidnapping and Murder Case
In connection with the 'Dongtan Kidnapping and Murder Case', which occurred due to the police's inadequate response, the police authorities have imposed disciplinary measures on 11 individuals, including the district head in charge.
This action holds those responsible for the tragic incident that occurred due to a lack of appropriate protective measures despite multiple reports from the victim.

On the 27th, the Gyeonggi South Provincial Police Agency announced that it plans to issue an administrative warning and implement personnel changes for Kang Eun-mi, the head of the Hwaseong Dongtan Police Station. An administrative warning is not considered formal disciplinary action but is given when a certain level of misconduct is acknowledged.
The investigators directly involved in the case, along with the head of the investigation team and the head of the Women and Juvenile Affairs Division, will face heavier responsibility and will be referred to a disciplinary committee. Additionally, police officers who were dispatched to the scene at the time of the incident have received administrative warnings and cautionary measures.
The Tragedy Caused by the Police's Lax Response
This incident occurred at around 10:40 AM on May 12th in an apartment complex in the Dongdan area of Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.
A man in his 30s, referred to as A, murdered a woman in her 30s, referred to as B, with a weapon, before committing suicide, revealing serious issues during the investigation process.

In particular, despite the victim, Ms. B, having reported A to the police and requested a criminal investigation, the police's delay in applying for an arrest warrant and their lax response have sparked public outrage.
Criticism has intensified, stating that "the police's inadequate response led to a tragedy."
A police official stated, "After conducting an inspection of the investigation process, we decided to take these actions. We will do our utmost to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future." Prior to this, on the 28th of last month, Chief Kang held a press conference and officially apologized to the victim's family.
