Stray Kids have proven their immense popularity in Japan.
On the 18th, Stray Kids released their new mini-album 'Hollow' in Japan. The album sold over 610,000 copies in just one day after pre-sales began on the 17th.
This is the second time they have recorded half a million sales before the official release of an album in Japan, following their first EP 'Social Path / Super Bowl Japanese Version' released in September 2023.
The new release topped Billboard Japan's Top Album Sales with 730,000 copies sold (from the 16th to the 22nd). It also debuted at number one on the Oricon Weekly Album Ranking and the Weekly Combined Album Ranking.
Stray Kids set a new record for the highest album sales in their first week of release. Moreover, they broke the record for the highest sales among fourth-generation K-pop groups.
This year, only three artists in Japan have achieved half a million sales in their first week of release, with Stray Kids being the first overseas artist to do so, adding to the significance.
The audio aspect also performed well, dominating Apple Music and iTunes in Japan’s comprehensive album rankings, pop album rankings, and K-pop album rankings. They also swept the Oricon Weekly Digital Album Rankings.
This is the first Japanese mini-album presented by the members in about three years, and it features all tracks composed of original Japanese songs for the first time since their local debut. The internal production team, 3RACHA, participated in all tracks.
The title track, named 'Hollow', combines the English word meaning 'empty' with the Korean word '홀로', which means 'lonely'. The song captures feelings of emptiness with intense synth leads, electric guitar, and piano touches.
