A man in his 30s, driving under the influence without a license, was caught in the act by the police.
Just before his arrest, it was reported that the man stated he was a "former martial arts athlete" and tried to strike the police, only to be overpowered.
On the 17th, the Daejeon Western Police Station announced that they had sent the man, identified as A, in custody for charges including drunk driving, obstruction of official duties, and reckless driving.
A is accused of ignoring a police checkpoint while on patrol on April 26, and of using abusive language.
At that time, the police, continuing their patrol, confirmed that the driver's license of the vehicle A was driving had been revoked and requested that he stop the vehicle due to a lack of seatbelt use.

However, seemingly complying with the police’s instructions, A moved away from the scene and continued to drive erratically, weaving between the road and the sidewalk to evade the police car that was pursuing him.
Trapped at a cul-de-sac, A began to resist the police demands, claiming he was a "former martial arts athlete."
After hurling curses at the police and then charging at them with a clenched fist, A was immediately subdued by an officer and arrested in the act.
At the time of his arrest, A emanated a strong smell of alcohol, and the breathalyzer test indicated his blood alcohol concentration was at a level that would result in a revoked license.

During the subsequent police investigation, A reportedly stated, "I fled because I was afraid my drunk driving would be discovered."
Meanwhile, individuals caught driving vehicles while under the influence are punished according to the following classifications:
A blood alcohol concentration of 0.2% or higher results in imprisonment for a term of 2 to 5 years, or a fine of 10 million to 20 million won. A concentration of 0.08% to 0.2% results in imprisonment for 1 to 2 years, or a fine of 5 million to 10 million won. A concentration of 0.03% to 0.08% results in imprisonment for up to 1 year, or a fine of up to 5 million won.
