Son Sol and Choi Hyuk-jin have succeeded the proportional representative seats

Son Sol and Choi Hyuk-jin have each succeeded the proportional representative seats of Wi Sung-lak, the National Security Adviser, and Kang Yu-jung, the spokesperson for the presidential office.

On the afternoon of the 9th, the National Election Commission announced, "The Democratic Party of Korea (formerly the Democratic United Party) has designated Son Sol as number 15 and Choi Hyuk-jin as number 16 as successors."

It further stated, "The Speaker of the National Assembly notified us on June 4 that Wi Sung-lak and Kang Yu-jung, the proportional representatives of the Democratic Party, had lost their seats, and thus we made this decision according to the ranking in the proportional representative candidate list."

According to Article 200, Paragraph 2 of the Public Official Election Act, "In the event of a vacancy for a proportional representative member of the National Assembly, the election management committee of the electoral district must determine the successor for the vacant National Assembly seat within 10 days after receiving the vacancy notification, based on the ranking in the candidate list for proportional representative National Assembly members of the party to which the vacated member belonged at the time of election."

With the appointment of the above-mentioned officials to the presidential office following the inauguration of the Lee Jae-myung administration, the vacancies created were succeeded by Representatives Son and Choi.

Son, a former spokesperson for the Progressive Party, stated in a press release on the same day, "I plan to return to the Progressive Party as agreed during the general election," and added, "I am currently discussing the subsequent procedures with the Democratic Party."

Choi, who previously served as the social economy secretary at the Blue House, expressed on his Facebook on the 4th, "As a member of the Democratic Party, I will do my best for the success of the Lee Jae-myung government."

In response, the Basic Income Party has urged the Democratic Party to expel Choi, but the Democratic Party has not made any particular statement.
