President Lee Jae-myung's Governance Performance Outlook: 58.2% 'Positive'

A survey has shown that nearly 60% of the public holds a positive outlook on President Lee Jae-myung's governance capabilities.

According to the results of a public opinion poll released on the 9th, 58.2% of respondents expressed a positive expectation that President Lee would perform well in office. This figure is lower than those of former Presidents Lee Myung-bak, Park Geun-hye, and Moon Jae-in, but higher than that of former President Yoon Suk-yeol.

In this survey, conducted by Realmeter at the request of Energy Economy from April 4 to 5, among 1,012 eligible voters aged 18 and older across the country, 45.8% responded that he would 'perform very well,' and 12.4% indicated he would 'generally perform well.'

On the other hand, negative expectations totalled 35.5%, with 8.8% believing he would 'not perform well' and 26.7% stating he would 'not perform well at all.' The response rate for 'don't know' was recorded at 6.3%.

The gap between positive and negative expectations reached 22.7 percentage points.

Distinct Differences by Gender and Age: Higher Positive Rates Among Women and Those in Their 40s

Detailed analysis revealed that women (62.6%) had a more positive outlook on President Lee's governance than men (53.8%).

By age group, those in their 40s showed the highest positive rate at 76.6%, while only 41.3% of those in their 20s held a positive outlook, marking the lowest figure. Notably, 54.1% of respondents in their 20s had a negative outlook, making them the only age group where negative expectations surpassed positive ones.

Comparing these results with the governance performance outlook surveys of past presidents immediately after their election, former President Lee Myung-bak received a positive outlook of 79.3%, former President Park Geun-hye had 64.4%, and former President Moon Jae-in garnered 74.8%. In contrast, former President Yoon Suk-yeol had only 52.7%.

President Lee Jae-myung's 58.2% sits at a mid-level among these figures.

Top Governance Task: Economic Recovery and Stability of People's Livelihoods

Respondents identified economic recovery and stability of people's livelihoods (41.5%) as the most urgent governance task President Lee should address. Following that, judicial reform and prosecutor reform (20.4%), and national unity and conflict resolution (12.8%) were deemed important.

Meanwhile, regarding party support, the Democratic Party ranked first with 48.0%, while the People Power Party recorded 34.8% in second place.

Compared to last week's survey, the Democratic Party rose by 1.2 percentage points, while the People Power Party fell by 0.3 percentage points.

Other parties included the Reform Party at 5.8%, the Justice Party at 3.7%, and the Progressive Party at 1.4%.

This survey was conducted via a 100% automated response method, with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level and a response rate of 8.0%. Detailed information can be found on the website of the National Election Survey Deliberation Commission.
