The dog that stayed to guard the house even after its leash was taken off to escape during the massive wildfire in Gyeongbuk… Updates shared after two months.

An elderly couple loosened their dog's leash and evacuated, but 'Mongsil' stayed to protect their home until the end.

At the end of March, when a massive wildfire broke out in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, an elderly couple hurriedly evacuated, telling their dog to run far away. However, Mongsil stood guard over the house, firmly believing that the couple would return one day.

Unaware that his face, legs, and rear were burning, he waited for his owners.

Recently, news has emerged that Mongsil has returned to his family after two months of treatment for burns.

On the 8th, the animal protection group 'Dorothy will protect you' announced on their official Instagram that Mongsil, who had been transferred to a hospital in Seoul two months ago, has been discharged.

The organization stated, "Our brave Mongsil, who overcame the most painful and difficult burn treatment, has returned to where his family is today in good health."

According to the video released by them, Mongsil’s once charred face now has soft, light-colored hair growing back.

Despite still having a blue bandage on one of his paws, he has regained enough vitality to respond vigorously to the small gestures of the rescue agency's staff.

Upon hearing this news, netizens left supportive comments such as, "I was curious about the news. Be happy, Mongsil," "I'm glad you returned home," and "I hope only happy things come for Mongsil and his family in the future."

Meanwhile, on the 28th of last month, Gyeonggi Province reported that the rescued dogs and their puppies from the wildfire site in North Gyeongsang Province have completed their preparations for adoption after undergoing burn treatment, health checks, and neutering surgeries at the country's largest companion animal theme park, Petmaru Yeoju.
