Singer Sung Si-kyung’s released ‘Gyeong Takju 12%’, hereinafter ‘Gyeong Takju,’ has faced a ruling from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. This is because sample gifts sent to acquaintances were missing proper labeling.
On the 1st, ‘Gyeong Korea’ stated, “We created prototypes for the development of Gyeong Takju. The product was tasted by relevant parties and sent to Sung Si-kyung’s acquaintances for testing.”
The labeling was the issue. “We were informed by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety that the product name, volume, manufacturer, and product manufacturing number were missing from the prototype labels,” they explained.
Sung Si-kyung’s side immediately clarified. “We explained the background of why detailed information could not be included during the production stage and confirmed there were no issues with the product. However, we were informed that labeling is a mandatory requirement even at the testing stage,” they conveyed.
All information was included on the labels of commercially sold products. “We received the notice because we failed to address initial prototype administrative aspects and are sorry for this,” they said.
Production will be halted for the time being. “While it is possible to sell already produced items, we were notified that production could not proceed for a month. We will sell until the 2nd of next month and then take time to reorganize,” they added.

Lastly, “We acknowledged the mistake that arose from our sincere efforts to release delicious liquor. We will be extra careful moving forward,” they concluded.
Sung Si-kyung also shared on his channel that day, “Even if it was a liquor to be shared with acquaintances, I should have been attentive to these details first. It was a lapse in judgment due to my ignorance.”
He continued, “This is unrelated to the products currently on sale. There are no issues with the food itself,” and added, “We will take time to reorganize the areas that were inadequate. The website will also be revamped.”
He also expressed his gratitude. “I wanted to say thanks as (Gyeong Takju) has received much love. We will take this opportunity to prepare thoroughly and return. Please look forward to it,” he said.
This year, Sung Si-kyung launched a liquor brand named ‘Gyeong’ and released Gyeong Takju. Gyeong Takju is a traditional liquor brewed using rice, malt, yeast, and acidity regulators.
The makgeolli faced immediate sell-outs upon release. It was also selected as the winner in the ‘Traditional Liquor’ category for Korean Rice Wine at the ‘2024 Korea Liquor Awards.’
