Kim Moo-sung: “The People Power Party couldn’t resist Yoon, that’s how we ended up here… it needs a complete transformation.”

Kim Moo-sung Urges Reform of Party Constitution and Regulations in People Power Party

Kim Moo-sung, a standing advisor, urged the People Power Party for a complete transformation, calling for a party reconstruction centered on a 'reform of party constitution and regulations first, followed by a national convention' approach.

On the 8th, Kim posted on his Facebook under the title "What I Wish for the People Power Party," emphasizing that the party should move towards 'reforming party constitution and regulations first and then holding a national convention' to establish democratic party practices.

Kim pointed out directly, “The Yoon Suk-yeol administration collapsed because it did not practice democracy. The Lee Jae-myung administration will also collapse if it fails to implement democracy. The People Power Party has no future if it does not practice democratic party governance.”

He particularly analyzed that the current crisis arose because the party did not properly criticize or resist President Yoon Suk-yeol's excessive interference in party affairs and his undemocratic, unilateral governance.

Kim stressed that “a politician's position is one of responsibility, not a privilege” and stated, “There should be no escaping from responsibility, nor should one attempt to do so.”

He urged the party leadership to “collaborate on a transformation that can genuinely lead to a complete overhaul and play the role of a bridge for generational change.”

Specifically, he praised the interim committee chairman, Kim Yong-tae, for “maintaining stability under adverse conditions” and passionately appealed for the establishment of a schedule to hold a national convention after completing the irrevisable reforms to the party constitution and regulations, such as bottom-up nomination systems and separation of party power from presidential power.

Meanwhile, on the same day, interim committee chairman Kim Yong-tae held a press conference at the National Assembly and announced, “We will prepare to hold a national convention by early September.”

Chairman Kim explained, “Conducting local elections under an elected party leader system, not under the interim committee system, is a key immediate goal for the reconstruction of conservatism and the success of local elections.”

Additionally, Chairman Kim stated that to resolve the conflict between pro-impeachment and anti-impeachment factions within the party, “We will push to invalidate the party’s position against the impeachment of the president.”
