5·18 Democratic Movement Distortion Game 'Gwangju Running Man', Deletion Push by Game Management Committee
The creator of 'Gwangju Running Man,' which distorts the 5·18 Gwangju Democratic Movement and glorifies former President Chun Doo-hwan, is presumed to be Chinese.
On the 5th, the Game Management Committee (hereinafter referred to as game committee) officially announced that it is collaborating with the 5·18 Memorial Foundation to push for the deletion of the game 'Gwangju Running Man.'
The problematic game is set in May 1980 in Gwangju and misrepresents citizens demanding democracy as heinous criminals and gangsters.

In particular, it seriously distorts historical facts by designing the violent actions of the martial army as justified acts.
Even more shocking is the inclusion of images of former President Chun Doo-hwan, who is identified as responsible for the 5·18 incident, in the game and content that glorifies him.
This game is not an independent game but rather user-generated content (UGC) distributed in the form of a mod for the medieval war game 'Mount & Blade: Warband' on the gaming platform Steam.

The game creator is presumed to be Chinese. A review of the creator's Steam profile reveals numerous game reviews written in Simplified Chinese, supporting this assumption.
The game management committee had already requested Steam in March to block domestic access to this game. However, overseas users can still access the game. Therefore, the committee has decided to take further steps to push for complete deletion.
A representative of the game committee stated, "We recognize that domestic laws cannot be applied to overseas users and plan to directly request deletion from Valve, which operates Steam. We will continue to convey concerns about the historical significance of 5·18 both domestically and internationally."
