Korean tourist brutally assaults Japanese in Hokkaido… arrested on the spot

An indiscriminate assault incident involving a South Korean tourist occurred in Hokkaido, Japan.

A South Korean man in his 30s was arrested after indiscriminately assaulting a local person with whom he had no prior acquaintance in Hokkaido. This incident, which took place at a ferry terminal in Tomakomai City around 4:05 PM local time on the 4th, was reported by HBC and others on the 5th, stating that the assault was carried out impulsively without any reason.

Indiscriminate Assault Without Any Reason

According to local police, the South Korean man struck the head of a 20-year-old Japanese man waiting at the ferry terminal with an empty can and pulled his hair.

During this incident, bystanders intervened to stop the assailant, and terminal staff reportedly notified the police, stating, "The man is causing a commotion loudly."

Circumstances Surrounding the Indiscriminate Assault Between Tourists and Locals

At the time, the victim was waiting at the terminal to board a ferry along with several other people.

The investigation revealed that the assailant was visiting Japan for tourism purposes and had no prior acquaintance with the victim. This type of indiscriminate assault once again highlights safety issues in public spaces.

The South Korean man, who was arrested on the spot by the police, admitted to the charges during the investigation, stating that he "could not suppress his impulses and hit him."
