‘Siheung Murder Case’ Cha Cheol-nam Reveals ‘Motive for the Crime’… “Lured Him Under the Pretense of Drinking”

Convenience store owner and landlord say "You ignored me"… Brother says "You didn't pay me back"

Cha Cheol-nam (56), a Chinese national who fled after killing two people and injuring two others in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, told the police that his actions were motivated by a debt issue.

According to the police on the 20th, Cha was apprehended around 7:24 PM the previous day and was taken to the Siheung Police Station, where he was questioned until around 5 AM on this day.

Cha stated to the police that he had lent around 30 million Korean Won multiple times since 2013 to a pair of brothers, A, who are ethnic Chinese and in their 50s, and when they failed to repay the money, he planned his crime.

On the afternoon of the 17th, around 4 PM, Cha called A and asked him to come to his residence in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung, saying, "Let's have a drink." He then killed him with a blunt weapon he had prepared beforehand. After that, around 5 PM, he went to the residence of A's brother and killed his younger brother, B, in the same manner.

After the crime, Cha left A's body in his home and B's body at the brother's residence. The distance between Cha's residence and the brothers' home was only about 200 meters in a straight line.

Two days later, on the morning of the 19th, around 9:34 AM, he stabbed a 60-year-old female store owner, C, from a convenience store he regularly visited near his residence and fled.

On the same day, around 1:21 PM, he stabbed a 70-year-old male landlord, D, who owned his home, at a sports park about 1.3 km away from the convenience store where the original crime took place.

Regarding the motive for injuring the two individuals, Cha is reported to have stated that he attacked store owner C because "she slandered me" and landlord D because "he ignored me." Both C and D are currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.

Cha entered Korea in 2012 on an Overseas Korean visa (F-4) and lived in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung.

Without a specific job, he had been earning money through temporary work and reportedly lived off money he had saved from abroad. He also maintained a brotherly bond with the A brothers, whom he had killed.

The police plan to request an arrest warrant for Cha on charges including murder on the 20th.
