Accident of Vehicle Falling into the Sea Near Yeosu Passenger Terminal
A tragic incident occurred when an SUV fell into the sea near the passenger terminal in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, resulting in the death of a driver in his 50s.
According to Yeosu Coast Guard, a report was received around 8:35 PM on the 19th, stating that an SUV had plunged into the sea near the passenger terminal in Deokchung-dong (Yeosu New Port).

The coast guard quickly dispatched a team to the scene, and during the search operation, they found a man in his 50s, identified as Mr. A (59), inside the submerged SUV. The rescue team immediately extricated Mr. A from the vehicle and administered first aid before transporting him to a nearby hospital, but he was ultimately pronounced dead at the hospital.
Investigation into the cause of the accident and the need for safety measures
The Yeosu Coast Guard is currently conducting investigations with eyewitnesses to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
They are carefully examining whether the cause of the vehicle's plunge into the sea was due to the driver's operational error, vehicle defects, or other factors.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety management in parking lots near coastal areas or port facilities. There is an increasing call for safety facility inspections and enhancements along coastal roads and parking areas, especially during nighttime hours.

A Yeosu city official said, "We plan to reassess safety facilities around the passenger terminal and establish measures to prevent similar accidents."
The coast guard is also set to strengthen promotion and patrol efforts to prevent safety accidents in coastal areas.
