Presidential Candidate Koo Joo, Abruptly Resigns One Month Before Election
Koo Joo, the presidential candidate from the Liberty Unification Party, abruptly resigned from his candidacy on the 18th.
According to the Central Election Management Commission, Candidate Koo officially submitted his resignation letter the day before (on the 18th) in the morning. As a result, his name has been removed from the candidate list on the commission's website, which previously listed him as 'Number 6'.

Candidate Koo is reportedly set to hold an emergency press conference at the Liberty Unification Party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, on the morning of the 19th, where he will elaborate on the background and reasons for his resignation.
Born in 1980, Koo Joo is a former lawyer and currently serves as a high-ranking member of the Liberty Unification Party. He has garnered attention in the political sphere as he is representing Kim Yong-hyun, the former Minister of National Defense who was indicted on charges related to leading the December 3rd Martial Law situation.
Political Career and Future Changes in Presidential Debates
Candidate Koo ran in the 21st general election representing the National Revolutionary Party in the Seocho Gap district of Seoul and later ran as the spokesperson for the Liberty Unification Party's election campaign committee for proportional representation as 'Number 6' in the 22nd general election.

He was running as the leading candidate for the Liberty Unification Party in this presidential election but decided to resign suddenly two weeks before the election.
As a result of Koo's resignation, the candidate debate scheduled for the 19th, organized by the Election Commission, will now proceed as a two-person debate between independent candidates Song Jin-ho and Hwang Kyo-ahn.
