Former Han Gil Announces Retirement, Faces Life Crisis… “I Can’t Even Receive YouTube Super Chats” Appeals

Jeong Han-gil, "Retirement is essentially dismissal… Claiming restrictions on YouTube monetization"

Former star lecturer Jeong Han-gil is causing controversy by claiming that his retirement was not a voluntary choice but essentially a dismissal.

On the 16th, Jeong expressed his frustration during a YouTube broadcast, stating, "I didn't quit teaching at the academy because I wanted to; I was fired."

According to Jeong, opposing factions pressured his agency, and there were calls in Naver cafes stating, "Fire Jeong Han-gil," and "How can someone like this teach Korean history?"

He raised his voice, saying, "I claimed that the contract was terminated by mutual agreement because I didn't want to hurt the company, but in reality, wasn't I actually fired?"

Expressing dissatisfaction over restrictions on YouTube monetization

Jeong also revealed that he is facing restrictions on monetization through YouTube.

He stated, "Is YouTube even profitable? I'm doing this to at least pay my staff, but I'm relying on voluntary subscriptions because super chats are not allowed. They say super chats can bring in tens of millions, but Google doesn’t permit it all," he disclosed.

To prove this, Jeong revealed a response he received from Google.

The correspondence stated that he was not allowed to use super chats because he did not comply with YouTube's community guidelines. However, it did not specify which regulations he violated.

In response, Jeong expressed his strong dissatisfaction, asking, "Is this normal? Does South Korea have freedom of the press right now? Only when the knife is at one's throat will people realize that South Korea has collapsed."

The background of the controversy and retirement announcement

Jeong Han-gil is a figure who has stirred controversy, expressing the state of emergency of December 3 as an "enlightenment order" and raising allegations of electoral fraud through social media.

In a video posted on YouTube last January, he claimed, "There can be a 21st-century digital fraudulent election," stating, "The cause of concerns about electoral fraud stems from the possible electronic manipulation due to the advance voting that we believed in and the electronic vote counting method."

Following this controversy, Jeong terminated his exclusive contract with his agency, Mega Civil Service, and announced his retirement from teaching.

On the 14th, he explained through a fan cafe, "Many people have been criticizing and protesting against our cafe and the company, so the company naturally felt a lot of pressure. I, too, didn't want to burden the company, so I agreed to end my teaching contract in February."

However, through this YouTube broadcast, Jeong is asserting that, contrary to his previous explanation, he was effectively dismissed due to external pressures and is currently facing restrictions in his YouTube activities. An official response from Mega Civil Service has yet to be released.
