Independent lawmaker Kim Sang-wook, who left the People Power Party, announced his intention to join the Democratic Party.

On the 18th, Kim declared his intention to join the Democratic Party before the 45th anniversary ceremony held at the May 18th Democratic Cemetery in Buk-gu, Gwangju.

Kim expressed his determination to "engage in politics for the people."

Earlier, on May 16th, during a campaign event for Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung in Iksan, North Jeolla Province, Kim had officially declared his support, referring to Lee as "a true conservative."

In response, candidate Lee Jae-myung referred to Kim Sang-wook as "a person who was driven out while trying to engage in genuine conservative activities in a fake conservative party."
