COVID-19 Resurgence in Greater China, Surge in Deaths in Hong Kong
COVID-19 is showing a resurgence in Greater China, raising concerns.
The Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on the 17th that COVID-19 cases are surging throughout Greater China.
According to Hong Kong health authorities, there have been 30 deaths due to COVID-19 in the past four weeks. Notably, among 81 severe adult patients, about 40% have died, indicating a significantly high mortality rate.
The COVID-19 positivity rate is also sharply increasing.
In Hong Kong, the positivity rate rose from 6.21% in early last month to 13.66% earlier this month, more than doubling and reaching its highest level in a year.

Surge in Pediatric Patients and Situation in Mainland China
One alarming aspect is the surge in pediatric patients.
The head of the pediatric ward at a public hospital in Hong Kong told SCMP in an interview, "Right now, the ward is filled with confirmed cases of unvaccinated children."
Some pediatric patients are reported to have fevers exceeding 39 degrees Celsius.
Mainland China is also showing signs of COVID-19 resurgence.
The positivity rate, which was 7.5% at the end of March, significantly increased to 16.2% by early May.
An infectious disease doctor at the Xi'an Jiaotong University Affiliated Hospital stated, "The number of new patients has roughly doubled over the past two weeks, but it is at a manageable level."

Situation in Neighboring Countries like Singapore
Singapore is also responding to the COVID-19 resurgence.
After resuming the count of COVID-19 cases for the first time in about a year, Singapore reported that the number of confirmed cases increased by 28% last week compared to the previous week, totaling 14,200.
The number of hospitalized patients also rose by 30% during the same period, adding strain to the healthcare system.
