It has become a topic of discussion that a campaign staff member of Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, saved the life of an elderly man who collapsed from cardiac arrest on the street.

On the 14th, former Democratic Party lawmaker Min Byung-du shared on Facebook, "Lee Jae-myung's campaign staff (Seongbuk District Councilor Noh Yeon-woo) saved an elderly man from cardiac arrest," along with photos from the scene.

The published photos show Noh Yeon-woo, dressed in a blue shirt as a campaign worker, administering CPR on the chest of a white-haired elderly man who collapsed on the street.

Noh Yeon-woo's swift response as a former volunteer firefighter

According to former lawmaker Min, Noh is a former volunteer firefighter.

He discovered the elderly man collapsed while campaigning in an alley, immediately called 119, and began performing CPR, later handing the man over to paramedics.

Min added, "Politics is essentially the art of saving lives."

According to Ohmynews, Noh stated, "Thanks to swift emergency measures, the elderly man regained consciousness shortly after. The responding 119 paramedics and police measured his blood pressure and continued emergency treatment. I then contacted the elderly man's daughter-in-law to ensure he could return home with her."

Candidate Lee also shared on Facebook that day, "I heard the news that Councilor Noh Yeon-woo from Dongdaemun District, who found an elderly man collapsed from cardiac arrest during campaigning yesterday, saved his life with quick CPR. His experience as a volunteer firefighter greatly helped."

He continued, "It is truly fortunate. Ultimately, politics is meant to save lives and protect the lives of the people, isn't it? This news must have been encouraging and uplifting for our Democratic comrades and supporters who are making a genuine effort to build a truly great Republic of Korea."

Finally, Lee expressed, "I once again thank Councilor Noh Yeon-woo for stepping up to save a life. I also wish for the elderly man's speedy recovery."

Additionally, former lawmaker Min suggested that this incident could be an opportunity for "all campaign workers to take a moment to receive CPR training."

He added, "It would also have meaning for candidate Lee to receive training if there are opportunities to encourage firefighters. This is what true campaigning means."

Meanwhile, Noh Yeon-woo was elected as a district council member in the 2022 local elections and has served as the chair of the Women's Committee for the Democratic Party in the Dongdaemun (Eul) area.
