On the 13th, the first trial of Lee Ji-hyun in the 'Seocheon indiscriminate murder' case took place.

The perpetrator, Lee Ji-hyun, brutally killed a woman in her 40s with whom he had no prior acquaintance.

The victim's father appealed to the court, asking for the maximum sentence, as he recalled his daughter who suddenly passed away.

On the 13th, the first hearing for 34-year-old Lee Ji-hyun, who was indicted on charges of murder and attempted murder, was held at the 1st Criminal Division of the Daejeon District Court (presided over by Judge Na Sang-hoon).

During the trial, Lee Ji-hyun acknowledged all the facts of his crime but claimed that he was in a diminished capacity state regarding his ability to control his actions and make judgments at the time of the offense, and requested a psychological evaluation from the court.

He offered no words of apology to the victim's father, Mr. A, who was present in the courtroom.

Mr. A, sitting in the witness stand, implored the court to impose the death penalty, the maximum sentence.

Mr. A stated, "I feel suffocated even when I eat or sleep due to the guilt of not being able to protect my daughter. The remorse for not being there during the incident constantly overwhelms me."

He continued, "I want to meet my daughter after death, but I cannot do that for the sake of my remaining family," as he cried uncontrollably.

He expressed, "If the perpetrator receives a short sentence and eventually comes back into this world, I might not be here by then. How should I deal with that?" and asked for the maximum sentence to prevent such incidents from happening again.

The court plans to continue with the trial procedures, considering the seriousness of the case, and Lee Ji-hyun's next hearing is scheduled for the 17th of next month at 11 AM.

Meanwhile, Lee Ji-hyun was indicted on charges of brutally murdering a woman in her 40s with a knife on the evening of March 2nd at around 9:45 PM on a sidewalk in Sagok-ri, Seocheon-gun, Chungcheongnam-do.

At that time, Lee Ji-hyun stabbed the victim multiple times and fled the scene without attempting to cover up the crime or conceal the weapon.

The victim, who was murdered by Lee Ji-hyun, had left home saying, "I will go exercise," and never returned.
