Ahn Cheol-soo warns former Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, "Do not hold hands with Lee Jae-myung"

Ahn Cheol-soo, a member of the National Assembly from the People Power Party, has strongly warned former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, stating, "You must not be swayed by Lee Jae-myung's sweet talk."

On the 13th, Ahn expressed his concerns about Hong's recent political maneuvers through his social media.

Ahn stated, "I express this out of concern that there might be a change of heart after your retirement from politics. Lee Jae-myung must never be an option." He particularly pointed out that "there are rumors that a change in political stance is felt from the mayor as we approach the recent presidential election," revealing his worries about Hong's recent actions.

"If there's even a 1% chance that you are considering cooperating with candidate Lee Jae-myung, I earnestly urge you, as a member of our party, a political junior, and as a fellow citizen: You must never hold hands with candidate Lee Jae-myung," Ahn emphasized.

Ahn's remarks came shortly after Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, sent a message of entreaty towards former Mayor Hong on the previous day, the 12th.

Through a post titled "Remembering the romantic politician Hong Joon-pyo," Lee expressed friendliness, saying, "Have a good trip to the U.S. When you return, let’s share a glass of makgeolli."

Lee emphasized, "In this crisis, do ideology or partisanship matter more than national interests or the happiness of the people?" He added, "Regardless of which party you supported or who you backed, I hope we can all come together for the future of the Republic of Korea, overcoming minor differences in thought."

In response, Ahn pointed out, "Recent reports indicate that some of the mayor's supporters have begun backing candidate Lee Jae-myung, or that some of your close associates are joining Lee's campaign; you must firmly put a stop to such trends."
