[Breaking News] Lee Jae-myung’s trial for ‘witness coaching’ also postponed… Court “date will be set later”

After the registration of presidential candidates, the trial schedule has been postponed.

The second trial schedule for the Democratic Party's presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung regarding the "aiding perjury" charge has been delayed.

On the 12th, the Seoul High Court Criminal Division 3, presided over by Lee Seung-han, announced, "Due to the defendant registering as a presidential candidate last weekend, the trial date for the aiding perjury case has been changed to a later date." The original trial date was set for the 20th.

Candidate Lee Jae-myung is currently undergoing trials related to violations of election laws and the Daejang-dong allegations, all of which have recently been postponed due to his candidacy in the presidential election.

All trial postponements… "Adjustment of dates for election fairness"

Previously, on the 7th, the Seoul High Court Criminal Division 7, presided over by Lee Jae-kwon, postponed the retrial schedule for Lee's election law violation case until after the presidential election. The Daejang-dong trial also decided to delay its schedule on the same day.

The court explained at that time, "The date was changed to ensure equal campaign opportunities for the defendant, who is a presidential candidate, and to prevent controversies regarding the fairness of the trial."

Judicial risks temporarily resolved… Emerging as a variable in the presidential election

Candidate Lee Jae-myung stands at the center of the presidential election landscape while also facing three significant trials as a defendant. As the court has continued to postpone trials to avoid fairness controversies during the election, Lee's "judicial risks" have effectively been deferred until after the election.

Meanwhile, prosecutors and the court are planning to coordinate trial proceedings regardless of the presidential election schedule, but whether there will be intensified hearings for candidate Lee Jae-myung will likely change depending on the election results.
