A tragic incident occurred in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, where a taxi driver lost his life in a traffic accident.

A vehicle traveling in the opposite lane collided with the central divider, causing a detached metal pole to pierce through the taxi window and strike the driver.

According to the Asan Fire Department, at approximately 4:09 a.m. on the 11th, a metal pole flew into a Sonata taxi driven by a 60-year-old man, Mr. A, on a six-lane road in Maegok-ri, Tangjeong-myeon, Asan City. This pole, which was part of the central divider structure, penetrated the driver's side window and directly hit Mr. A. He was urgently transported to the hospital immediately after the accident, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.

An Unexpected Tragedy of Debris: Investigation Underway

Investigations revealed that the metal pole had become detached when a K5 vehicle was traveling in the opposite lane and collided with the central divider.

The K5 vehicle that crashed into the central divider ignited due to the impact, but the fire was extinguished within 17 minutes by the quick response of firefighting teams. Fortunately, the driver and two passengers in the K5 vehicle only sustained minor injuries.

The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the exact circumstances of the accident and the cause of the separation of the central divider debris.
