“Explosion from Van Driving Through Underpass… Investigating the Cause of the Fire That Burned the Entire Vehicle Seat”

A fire broke out in a van while driving through an underpass… What is the cause?

A fire occurred in a van traveling through an underpass in Songnae-dong, Bucheon City.

On the 9th, the Gyeonggi Province Fire and Disaster Headquarters reported that a fire broke out in a van passing through the underpass in Songnae-dong, Sosa District, Bucheon City, at 1:43 PM that day.

The fire burned some of the vehicle's seats and was completely extinguished by the fire department about 13 minutes later, at 1:56 PM, after receiving the report.

The fire authorities suspect that the initial cause of the fire was an electrical issue from a supplemental battery installed underneath the vehicle's seats. Fortunately, all individuals on board at the time of the fire were able to evacuate safely, and there were no injuries.

Currently, fire authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the exact cause of the fire and the extent of property damage. They plan to utilize the findings from the detailed examination of the electrical issue related to the supplemental battery as data to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Vehicle supplemental batteries are increasingly used for charging electronic devices during camping or long-distance travel, but there is a risk of fire if unverified products are used or if they are improperly installed, so caution is required.

A fire department official stated, "The number of cases installing supplemental dash cams to record the accelerator pedal is increasing these days," and urged, "Please install products that have confirmed safety certifications whenever possible."
