Former President Moon: “The Prosecutor’s Indictment is Fiction”… Completely Denies ‘Bribery Charges’

Former President Moon Jae-in Completely Denies Bribery Charges… "The Prosecutor's Indictment is Fiction"

Former President Moon Jae-in, who has been indicted on bribery charges, strongly rebutted the prosecution’s allegations, calling them "fiction."

On the 9th, Moon's legal team issued an official statement claiming, "The prosecutor's indictment is a novel written without listening to any testimony from relevant parties," and they firmly refuted the charges.

Moon's team particularly asserted, "We have never received any reports from the Civil Affairs Secretary's Office regarding the employment of our son-in-law or his relocation to Thailand." They emphasized that "it is only natural for the family relations team to communicate regarding the relocation process of the son-in-law and his wife," directly contradicting the prosecutor's accusations.

Previously, the prosecution indicted former President Moon on charges of bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes. According to the prosecution, Moon is accused of receiving approximately 217 million won in salaries and housing allowances from August 2018 to April 2020 after Lee Sang-jik, the founder of Eastar Jet, was appointed as the chairman of the Small and Medium Business Corporation.

The prosecution also claimed, "A civil affairs secretary A, responsible for the management and oversight of Moon's family members, and special inspection team leader B closely communicated with former lawmaker Lee during the preparation process for Moon's daughter’s family's relocation to Thailand," and "They actively involved themselves by sharing information on residence and international school provided by Mr. Seo, as well as the scale of financial support offered with Moon's daughter’s family."

In connection with this case, former lawmaker Lee Sang-jik has been indicted for bribery and breach of duty, and Moon's daughter, Dahye, along with her ex-husband, Mr. Seo, received a deferred prosecution decision.
