A man in his 40s, who secretly discovered his neighbor's door password, broke into the neighbor's house multiple times and even installed a recording device, was sentenced to probation in court.
The Chuncheon District Court's Wonju branch, presided over by Chief Judge Lee Seung-ho, announced on the 10th that A (49), who was charged with violating the Communications Privacy Protection Act and trespassing, received a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and a one-year disqualification.
As a result, A, who had been undergoing trial in custody, was released.
A was charged for breaking into the neighboring house of his residence in Wonju, Gangwon Province, a total of three times in February this year. According to the indictment, A overheard sounds of sexual intercourse from the neighboring house while in the hallway of the building around November last year. Subsequently, to satisfy his sexual curiosity, A installed a miniature camera in front of the neighbor's house to discover the door password and illegally entered the house around 5 PM on the 13th of the same month.

On February 16, at around 9:30 PM, A attempted to enter the neighboring house again to install a recording device in the gap of the mattress. A few minutes later, he re-entered the neighbor's house to check if the recorder was functioning properly, where he was caught by the returning neighbor.
As a result of this incident, A faced trial while in custody.
The court pointed out, "The defendant intruded into the victim's home for sexual curiosity and satisfaction, attempting to record private conversations between the victim and her boyfriend, and only narrowly escaped conviction." However, it also stated, "Taking into account the fact that the defendant admitted all his crimes, had no prior convictions, paid 10 million won to the victim as compensation, and that the victim did not want to pursue punishment against the defendant, the sentence was determined."
