People Power Party Cancels Kim Moon-soo's Candidacy and Proceeds with Han Duck-soo's Recruitment Process

The People Power Party announced early on the 10th that they have canceled the candidacy of presidential candidate Kim Moon-soo and are in the process of selecting independent presidential candidate Han Duck-soo as the new presidential nominee.

Senior Spokesperson Shin Dong-wook explained the candidate replacement procedure through the emergency response committee and the party's election management committee in detail during a meeting with reporters.

Spokesperson Shin stated, "We will hold a meeting of the emergency response committee to vote on significant reasons for the occurrence and to request the preparation of deliberations regarding the new candidate." He added, "The election management committee will approve the cancellation of Candidate Kim and deliberate on the procedure for selecting a new candidate."

Internal Procedures for Recruiting Candidate Han Duck-soo Underway

Regarding the candidate replacement procedure, Spokesperson Shin explained, "Candidate Han Duck-soo will submit the membership application, and the emergency response committee will vote on it," and added, "The process for selecting a new presidential nominee will proceed." He emphasized, "We have to complete the procedure of canceling Candidate Kim's candidacy and registering a new candidate overnight."

Regarding Candidate Han's membership application procedure, he simply stated, "Joining is as simple as one piece of paper." However, he mentioned that additional procedures would be necessary for confirming the candidate.

Spokesperson Shin noted, "According to the party constitution and regulations, a vote among all party members must be conducted. The national committee must also vote on it," and added that "Candidate Han Duck-soo could potentially be rejected in that process."

He further stated, "Naturally, we have to ask the party members for their opinions on registering Candidate Han as the new candidate," explaining that the question would be something like, "Do you agree to make Han Duck-soo our party's candidate?" When asked whether this had been communicated to Candidate Kim’s side, he replied, "They would already be aware of everything."
