On the 6th, Seoul Transportation Corporation announced that it will improve the information display methods for passenger information screens inside the trains and train information boards in the stations.

This measure aims to address complaints regarding passengers not knowing where to get off or mistakenly boarding the wrong train due to short information display times.

Seoul Transportation Corporation will invest approximately 237 million won to carry out the 'Improvement of Arrival Station Information Display on Trains' work on 634 new trains for subway lines 2 to 4 this year.

Improvements for lines 2 and 3 are planned to be completed by June, while those for line 4 will be completed by December.

Constant Arrival Station Display System Reducing Passenger Confusion

The key to the improvements is to change all screens at the top of the passenger information displays on the trains to show the arrival station 100% of the time.

Previously, when the screen changed to show individual route information, congestion guidance, or transfer information, the arrival station information would disappear, making it difficult for passengers to confirm where to get off.

The display time for the arrival station was only about one minute at most, making it challenging for passengers to properly check where to get off in a crowded train.

Seoul Transportation Corporation completed improvement work on a total of 550 new trains on lines 2, 5, and 7 by the end of last year and is expanding the work this time. Newly introduced trains in the future will have the improved display methods applied from the outset.

Improving Train Information Boards Within Stations

In addition, train information boards in the platforms and waiting areas of subway lines 2 to 8 will be reorganized to focus on displaying train arrival information, including the destination and current location.

Previously, 21 public announcements, including promotions from the Seoul city and military service guidance, were shown alongside the destination screen, making it difficult to grasp train-related information at a glance.

With this system upgrade, public announcements, congestion information, and emergency alerts will move to advertisement screens, increasing the visibility of the destination screen.

Improvement work will be carried out sequentially, targeting 50 stations on line 2 by June, 60 stations on lines 3 and 4 by December, 74 stations on lines 5 and 8 by 2027, and 81 stations on lines 6 and 7 by 2028.

For line 1, improvements for 10 stations have already been completed as of early last year. The total budget for the project is 24.3 billion won.

Seoul Transportation Corporation stated, "With the improvement of the display method, we aim to resolve complaints about boarding and alighting inconveniences and enhance transportation convenience and service satisfaction."
