Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, emphasized, "The will of the people is the most important," in response to the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the second trial's acquittal related to violations of the Public Official Election Act.
"The will of the people is the most important"
After a meeting with non-traditional workers held at a street vendor in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 1st, the candidate stated, "This is a ruling that is completely different from what I had thought."
Regarding the calls from the People Power Party for his resignation following the ruling, he said, "Political competitors may fantasize and hope for various outcomes, but ultimately, politics is done by the people," and emphasized, "We must follow the will of the people."
In a subsequent post on Facebook, he remarked, "Decisions that affect the lives of the people are neither made by politics nor by the judiciary. Ultimately, it is the people who make those decisions," stating, "I will move forward boldly, trusting only the people."
The Supreme Court's Decision to Overturn the Ruling on Lee Jae-myung's Violation of the Public Official Election Act
The Supreme Court's plenary session, led by Chief Justice Park Young-jae, today overturned the lower court's ruling that acquitted candidate Lee of violations of the Public Official Election Act and sent the case back to the Seoul High Court.
This decision means that the allegations against the candidate will be re-examined by the Seoul High Court.
The charges against Lee Jae-myung involve claims that he influenced the election with false statements during his tenure as the Governor of Gyeonggi Province.

In the first trial, he was convicted, but his conviction was overturned in the second trial. However, with the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the second trial, legal battles are expected to continue.
The timing of this ruling, coming just before the presidential election, is anticipated to have significant repercussions in the political arena.
The People Power Party has called for the candidate's resignation, while the Democratic Party has vehemently opposed the ruling, labeling it a political decision and 'judicial coup.'
