A shrimp fishing vessel crew member murder case, captain sentenced to 28 years in prison in appeals court
A captain in his 40s who brutally murdered a crew member on a shrimp fishing boat and disposed of the body at sea was unable to avoid a heavy sentence in the appeals court as well.

According to News1 on the 29th, the Gwangju High Court sentenced Captain A, who was indicted for murder and body disposal, to 28 years in prison, the same sentence as in the first trial.
Captain A is accused of having murdered crew member B, who was in his 50s, on April 30 of last year at around 9:23 AM on a shrimp fishing vessel in the waters off Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do.
Investigations revealed that from the beginning of March last year, when B boarded the fishing vessel, until the day of the incident, Captain A engaged in continuous and brutal abusive behavior towards him for about two months.
Brutal and continuous abuse
Captain A indiscriminately beat B using various blunt objects and repeatedly abused him by spraying seawater with a hose used for cleaning the ship.

As a result of this ongoing violence, B's body was covered in bruises, and Captain A even confiscated the crew members' mobile phones to prevent any knowledge of the abuse from reaching the outside.
Death by hypothermia after continuous abuse, body disposed of at sea
On the day of the incident, A also assaulted B and sprayed him with seawater several times, leading to B's eventual death from hypothermia. Captain A, along with another crew member, C, then disposed of B's body at sea.
The appeals court stated, "A was ruthless in beating B with various tools and spraying him with seawater. The abuse occurred for two months without any sense of guilt. The original sentence is just," it ruled.
Meanwhile, crew member C, who assisted in A's crimes, was sentenced to four years in prison, one year longer than the three years imposed in the first trial for aiding and abetting the murder.
