Daegu Participation Solidarity Reports Former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo to the High-ranking Public Officials Criminal Investigation Agency
Former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, who officially announced his retirement from politics shortly after being eliminated from the People's Power presidential primary, has been reported to the High-ranking Public Officials Criminal Investigation Agency.
On the 29th, Daegu Participation Solidarity announced that they had reported former Mayor Hong to the agency for bribery related to illegal opinion polls conducted by Myung Tae-kyun.
They stated, "According to media reports, it was revealed that during the 2020 general election, aides of former Mayor Hong commissioned a total of 19 opinion polls, including 18 public and non-public polls from election broker Myung Tae-kyun, and one opinion poll regarding former Mayor Hong's return to the party in May 2021, and that these results were utilized in the process of his candidacy in the general election and his return to the party."

They continued, "Hong's aide, Choi Yong-hui, made undisclosed deposits totaling 43.7 million won in 12 instances from May 8, 2021, to April 17, 2022, to Myung Tae-kyun's side (Kang Hye-gyeong's account), thereby providing illegal political funds to former Mayor Hong, which constitutes a clear violation of the Political Fund Act."
According to Daegu Participation Solidarity, after being elected as mayor, Hong appointed his aides to positions as team leaders and staff at the Daegu City Seoul Headquarters.
They emphasized, "The amount of bribery received by former Mayor Hong is at least 30 million won or more, which is classified as a serious crime under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes," urging the High-ranking Public Officials Criminal Investigation Agency to conduct a swift and fair investigation.
In relation to this, former Mayor Hong has denied all related allegations, stating, "I do not know Mr. Myung Tae-kyun well" and "the commission of opinion polls is not related to me."
