Gwangju Non-Profit Organization Association Head Fined for Sexual Harassment Remarks

The Gwangju Regional Employment and Labor Agency imposed a fine of 2.4 million won on Mr. A (80), the head of a non-profit organization in Gwangju, for making sexual harassment comments.

According to a statement submitted by his employee, Ms. B (50), Mr. A made sexual harassment remarks about her to other employees starting from January of last year.

Ms. B claimed that Mr. A said she was "having inappropriate relationships with members" and "frequenting motels."

Ms. B stated, "Due to the continuous sexual harassment remarks and defamation, I was diagnosed with depression and underwent treatment."

The Labor Agency concluded that such behavior violated Article 76-2 of the Labor Standards Act (Prohibition of Workplace Harassment). They specifically determined that Mr. A’s remarks were defamatory toward Ms. B.

Meanwhile, Mr. A also received a summary fine of 2 million won from the Gwangju District Prosecutor's Office for the same incident. Additionally, he had previously been fined for assaulting another female employee, Ms. C (in her 30s), last August.
